Message from the Principal and Vice-Principal
It is nice to see that spring has arrived in full force. It’s also hard to believe that, as of May 1st, we have just eight weeks left in the 2011/2012 school year.
BVCS CAC is thrilled to be bringing Dennis Sullivan of the American Athletic Institute to Thornbury and Meaford to talk to our elementary (Grades 5-8) and highschool kids (phys ed classes) about drugs and alcohol. Dennis has also agreed to give a community presentation May 8th at BVCS at 7pm. His presentation is very powerful and we highly recommend that you see it to learn more about the physiological impacts of some of the decisions our kids are making, and how we can help them to navigate today’s challenges.
Please note that our May CAC meeting date has been changed to Tuesday, May 15th at 7:00 PM.
Please join us at the Thornbury Arena and Community Centre on June 1st for Municipal Works Day. This annual event, hosted by the Town of the Blue Mountains, is an opportunity to meet and learn about all the wonderful people who help to make the municipality the great place it is to live, work, and play.
We have already had a number of sunny spring days, so sun safety has become a concern. We ask parents to remember “Slip, Slap and Slop” when it comes to sun safety for their children.
Slip on clothing to cover arms and legs
Slap on a hat – preferably wide brimmed
Slop on sunscreen – SPF of 30 or higher
We would also encourage students to wear sunglasses outside with both UVA and UVB protection.

COMMUNITY ADVISORY COUNCIL (SCHOOL COUNCIL):
Our next CAC meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 15th at 7:00 PM (this is a change in date) in the BVCS Library. All parents are welcome to attend. PARENTS JOINING IN
Our next Parents Joining In day takes place on Friday, May 11th from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. This is a great way for parents to experience just what it is that their children do and learn in class. If you would like to participate, please let your child’s teacher know that you will be attending on May 11th. We ask that parents meet in the school library at 9:00 AM to sign in and to hear what’s planned for the morning. Rather than just watching your children as they go about learning, we are asking parents to be prepared to come to school on May 11th ready to take part in the morning’s learning activities.
